Milling in a garden

The restoration of this Lutyens style house and its garden
required that a number of the fine old trees should be felled to let in more light.

They included a number of beech, scots pine and a cedar tree.

Working within this garden obviously required great care to avoid damage to lawns and shrubs and there was no vehicular access – no problem for this lightweight and very portable mill.

Some of the quality timber produced was to be used to construct garden furniture, a children’s play area and a tree house. The beech, once air-dried, was to be used to make furniture for the house.

It is planned that the grain patterns, which tell the story of that
tree’s 140 year life, will be seen and enjoyed in a magnificent
table top.
